About Me
& What I do

I’m a visual storyteller, mostly photographing people, brands and businesses- although really, I think I’ve always just been fascinated by people and their stories.

I love a good chat, a lot of laughing and finding out what makes people tick. Unsurprisingly, all of that tends to find its way into my work.

I’m originally from Hull- and it really is never dull in ’ull, whatever anyone says- but these days I’m based in the North West, juggling photography, family life and trying to find as many excuses as possible to be outside.

I love horses, trees, big skies, wild landscapes and noticing all the tiny, everyday things that are so easy to miss when we’re rushing around. Being outside is where I feel most like myself, and probably where most of my ideas begin.

I think that curiosity- about people, places and the little things- is at the heart of how I photograph too.

my background

After getting my photography degree at Nottingham Trent University, I went travelling around the world with my sister for a year. It was amazing, chaotic and probably one of the most inspiring years of my life.

It also got me thinking… could I actually make a living from photography?

So, when I got home, I knuckled down and became a photography assistant, working in commercial, advertising and fashion photography. It was long hours, hard work and a pretty steep learning curve, but I absolutely loved being in that world and soaked up as much as I possibly could.

Eventually I got to the point where I thought, I reckon I can actually do this, and went freelance in 2004.

2004!

I’ll just leave that there.

The funny thing is, photography has never really felt like a proper job to me. It’s just how my brain works. I notice people, light, expressions, little details and all the odd in-between moments that other people might miss.

Photography is how I see and make sense of the world.

How ace that I get to make a living doing it — and share some of the way I see things with you.
